Oklahoma is giving a hand to Indian casino's thrive
13 February 2005
With recreating casinos across the Indian tribes in Oklahoma, which are drafted to rise in the nearest future, comes the anticipated sweep of luxurious and more deployed bingo facilities. The most prominent example is the three story establishment, featured by the glittering Las-Vegas-Style lights. The $80 million renovation is evident just from casting a glance at the Cherokee Casino Resort's spruce sign which speaks for itself. Some experts consider it to be a turning point for Indian casino gambling, entailing its massive growth.
With integration of new games, enacted in the upgraded facilities, casinos are expected to receive a serious boost as more and more tribes will hook on this trend. The casino electronic games have also been approved at three pari-mutuel horse tracks, two of which are in the tribal possession, which is in compliance with the Passage of State Question 712 which allows for the state and tribes to sign compacts on card and electronic bingo games reminiscent to the Las Vegas slot machines.
The new legislation is estimated to infuse 10,000 brand new electronic casino games adding up to 30,000 games. Marcus Prater, senior vice president of marketing for Bally Gaming and Systems, said the only rivals that could brag with larger number of casino machines are Nevada, New Jersey, Mississippi and California. As a fair trade for the new games, the compact empowers the state to have some oversight over the casinos and a share of its proceeds. Chad Smith, the principal chief of the Cherokee Nation, said that aside from the obvious remuneration, Indian gambling generates more jobs allowing for casino gambling to become a means rather than the ends. That however, does not entail that casinos will supplant the entire landscape. The limitations are imposed on the commercially viable Indian trust land.
