Legislators strive to absolve Casinos from smoking bans
22 February 2005
Smoking bans are casino assassinators! The bill absolving casinos from local smoking bans has exhausted the members of Montana House of Representatives as they were called into passing the bill once again. In 2003, a similar law was passed by the Legislature, but Montana Supreme Court in December. But this time, supporters are praying for better outcomes.
The bill 661 targets Helena and would proof any casino facilities administering video gambling machines from smoking ban, enacted by the local government, applying the state's clean indoor act instead. The previous Bozeman's ban that exempted casinos and bars allowed for many businesses in the city to ban smoking on the voluntarily basis from their establishment.
The Rep. Rick Maedje expressed his doubts regarding the detrimental consequences of secondhand smoke, outlined by a certain study. He later contended that the unintended outcomes of abducting smokers of places were they can relish in their habit is of much greater concern to him, as it'll only lead to a heavier home smoking which would jeopardize the children's health.
