U.K casinos are shoved into far away resorts
23 February 2005
New Britain casinos are unlikely to open until 2008, in spite of the upheaval in the nation's gambling rules. The potential casino locations proposed by U.S operators will most probably be in the economically withered sites, where no U.S. casino operators would wish to establish their facilities. Casino operators would be able to apply for licensing only in 2006 or 2007 after the decision of independent government board that will set the appropriate location for casino development.
Some of the British casino operators have voiced their fierce opposition to the gambling bill, when their primary worry targets Las Vegas and foreign investors with heavy pockets who may smash their businesses. Increasing gambling problems induced lawmakers to restrict the number of small, large and resort destination casinos to eight each.
The lamentable consequences of undermining 100 new casinos together with 100,000 slot machines, brought Harrah build smaller casinos with British bingo hall operator, Gala Group Ltd., but it has not yet gave up on larger resorts. Casino companies have to face even larger impediments in the approval process as the local officials and national gambling regulators must credit their licensing. This entails negotiation with people least proficient in the casino gambling field, most of whom are prejudiced against it.
