Pataki indulges Catskills with brand new casinos
26 February 2005
A new casino project was recently advertised by the Gov. George Pataki who’s set on a mission to indulge Catskills with casinos. According to the plan five Native American casinos would be planted in Sullivan County around Monticello, which is about two hours from Albany.
The public hearing in the Senate is scheduled to take place in the upcoming weeks, but there are some people fearing of the blight effect this casino venture might bring to the area.
The financial destitute of Catskills makes the argument of casino proponents into a convincing one, elevating the issue of gambling into the pedestal of economic salvation. Pataki advocates that his plan will not only settle Native American land claims but will also generate hundreds of millions of dollars for the state’s coffer.
