No casino licensing – no reason to move into casino industry
3 March 2005
The governmental deregulation of casino licensing induced Willian Hill, the bookmaker to relinquish his plans of transferring into the world of casino industry. The full attention of chief executive David Harding was concentrated on super-casinos, patiently awaiting the opportunity to make large investments, since the sector was praised as one of the more fruitful in terms of money generating power.
The enterprise however was doomed to failure after the Government intercepted the number of casino licenses and besieged more rigorous limitations on gaming apparatus which irrationalized the preplanned advent.
It seemed that the deployment of casino industry is on the way to overpass the betting shops, but it is not longer the case. William Hill has been found to make more money than was expected so he was pressed to return the capital. Nevertheless, the headroom is still in place for further acquisitions of betting shops, sweeping the firm's pension shortage of £40m.
David Harding is currently keen on establishment of Hill's European poker operations and the crucial online tournament, the promotion of which was made by the Sky channel.
