Online casinos bring addiction concerns to many Canadians
9 March 2005
An intriguing survey on online casino gambling was recently conducted, by The Canadian Press. The results have shown that fifty-six percent are against this leisure, one-quarter had no problem with it and the rest dispersed somewhere in the middle. Those numbers suggest that more than half Canadians seem to think playing for cash is an unacceptable venture, hence online casinos better be blocked.
The current survey is the most encompassed and detailed snapshot of public opinion on online gambling activities. In contrast to the idea of growing fascination with either land-based or online casino gambling, the public is keenly aware of addiction issues and seem to be concerned about the loose regulatory procedures upon the areas with dense video lottery terminals.
Still, despite the alleged overall gambling concerns, almost 80 percent of the population is taking part in it overshadowing even the rates of drinking and smoking. Casino trends are so proliferated and ubiquitous across the country that many people, on the conscious level, do not perceive it as a harming type of entertainment.
