Binion's Says Goodbye to Its Horseshoe Name and Logo
15 March 2005
The historic Binion's Horseshoe hotel-casino is getting a makeover and a name change. The famous Horseshoe name and insignia are being stripped to make way for the new "Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel."
Last year, Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. bought the casino property as well as rights to the horseshoe name. Soon after it bought the casino property, Harrah's sold it off to MTR Gaming Group of West Virginia, but continued to manage the site. Harrah's recently stopped managing the site, taking the Horseshoe name and logo with it.
Upon taking over operations, MTR immediately moved to eradicate all signs of the Horseshoe name, starting with the chips and table covers. Over the coming months, all traces of the Horseshoe brand will disappear from the casino's premises, including employee uniforms and the outside sign.
Harrah's management will be back at Binion's in mid-July to host the final event of World Series of Poker (WSOP), to which Harrah's also owns the rights. The WSOP has been hosted by Binion's Las Vegas casino since it began thirty-some years ago. Although this year's competition will be held for the most part at the Rio hotel-casino, the final event will return to Binion's, at the request of Oscar Goodman, Las Vegas' mayor, in order to coincide with the city's centennial festivities.
