Former Casino President's License Reinstated
20 March 2005
Gary C. DiBartolomeo, the former president of Caesars Atlantic City Hotel Casino is being given a second chance. The gambling executive was banned from the industry four years ago after he was discovered to be hiding a compulsive gambling problem. He is the most senior casino employee in the U.S. ever to admit having a gambling problem.
During his bout with compulsive gambling, DiBartolomeo allegedly racked up losses totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars during stays at casinos in Nevada, Monte Carlo and other locales.
The New Jersey Casino Control Commission recently awarded DiBartolomeo with a casino employee license, under the condition that he continues to seek help for his gambling issues. DiBartolomeo is required to be present at Gamblers Anonymous meetings on a weekly basis, as well as to seek treatment by a mental health professional specializing in addictive disorders. The other condition is that his paychecks be deposited directly into a bank account to which only his wife has access.
