Tabcorp to Establish Gaming Technology R&D Center
11 April 2005
Tabcorp, Australia's flagship leisure, gambling and entertainment corporation is allegedly seeking to build a gaming technology research and development hub in India. Though the R&D center will likely be modest in staff size, the technology developed therein is expected to be released in Europe and North America. By setting up shop in India, versus other pricier locales, Tabcor expects to cut costs by up to 40 percent.
Despite Tabcor's lofty plans, the gaming group may face considerable red tape in India, a country holding less than favorable views on gambling ventures. Nonetheless, Tabcor is going ahead with the campaign, laying the groundwork for the anticipated R&D center. Matthew Slatter, managing director and CEO of Tabcorp, has already met with Indian dignitaries, while in India for the purpose of feeling out businesses opportunities.
