Voice Recognition Keeps Underage Gamblers Offline

The UK’s online gambling sites have been struggling to find a solution to the problem of underage gamblers. One gambling site, iGaming has teamed up with 192.com Business Services, an identity authentication specialist, to integrate a voice recognition based identity check.
The tool, called 192 SafeBet, will call back the customer when they log onto the site. The call will ask the customer to state their name and age. If they don’t respond, the transaction fails and the user will not be able to use the site. After the first login, future logins will also involve a verification that the voice is of the same person.
192.com Business Services’ databases already have personal information on nearly every resident of the UK, using sources such as the BT Contact Directory Enquiries database and the Electoral Roll, so they can verify information almost instantly.
Pricing for 192 SafeBet will be based on a one-time license fee with a small per-use fee.
Keith Marsden, managing director at 192.com Business Services explains the advantage of the system. “An underage gambler is no more likely to dare to leave a voice print when they place a bet online than they would be to walk in to a betting shop on the high street.”
“Since the boom in online and mobile gaming, underage gambling has become a real concern,” Marsden said, highlighting the need for the 192 Safebet solution. “However, businesses are often the forgotten victims of this phenomenon as they bear the costs of disclaimed gambling losses.”
