Biloxi, Mississippi Gets Ready for 12th Annual Southern Gaming Summit
30 April 2005
Get ready for the 12th Annual Southern Gaming Summit, this May 3-5! Last year’s summit had over 5,000 attendees from around the world, and close to 200 companies exhibiting, and this year’s promises to be even better!
With sessions examining everything from the gambling industry’s economic trends to problem gambling, there will be plenty to learn about today’s brick-and-mortar casinos. While much of the conference will be devoted to discussing the boom in Native American gaming in the South and Southeast, many other important issues will be addressed.
From the opening session, participants will be able to see what new games have come out on the market this year, and which ones will be released soon. Sessions will address how the online market has affected casino gambling, and how the popularity of poker has driven crowds back to the casinos. Speakers will discuss how to make casinos appeal to a younger crowd, using the example of the Hard Rock Casino.
This year’s conference will address the morality of running gambling facilities, focusing on compulsive gambling, how to recognize compulsive gamblers, and how to help them help themselves. A special panel will discuss the pathology of compulsive gambling, how to identify the behaviors, actions, and speech patterns of problem gamblers, and how to implement exclusion policies and suggest treatment options. Problem gambling is a main theme in the summit, as casinos struggle to do away with their image as a trap for addicted gamblers.
