Wireless Gambling in Casinos to be Put to Vote in Nevada Senate
26 May 2005
Financial firm Cantor Fitzgerald is lobbying for the Nevada State Senate to approve a bill, which would allow wireless gambling in the public areas of casinos. The bill would not allow wireless gambling in hotel rooms, but would allow casino guests to play handheld wireless slots, blackjack, and other games in areas such as restaurants and recreational facilities.
Cantor G&W, an affiliate of Cantor Fitzgerald, has developed the technology for the handheld gaming devices. The devices would not allow casino goers to wager over the internet, as internet wagering is banned by US federal law. The devices would be legal only in casinos with at least 100 slot machines and one other type of gambling game.
The senate will vote on the bill by June 6th, and if the bill passes, the governor will need to sign the bill into law. Once the law is passed, it will take an additional 6 to 9 months to develop the full regulations before implementation.
