Station Casinos To Open Two Reno Properties
3 July 2005
Just a month after Station Casinos Inc said that they are planning a large new resort in south Reno, the company has announced plans to build a smaller hotel-casino across the street from the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. The two new properties will bring the company’s holdings to 15 properties. In addition, Station Casinos manages the Thunder Valley Casino, which belongs to the United Auburn Indian Community, and is located outside of Sacramento.
Reno developer Roger Elton will lease the land to Station Casinos, allowing the company to build a hotel on South Virginia Street. The hotel is expected to have 200-500 rooms. Scott Nielson, Station Casinos Executive Vice President said that the decision to build the two Reno casinos reflects the company’s interests to expand into Northern Nevada.
In addition, adding a new hotel in close proximity to the recently refurbished convention center will help lure conference organizers to Reno. Potential competitors believe that with the new hotel, the area will become more popular, increasing their business as well.
