British Casinos to Get a Boost from Entertainment
11 August 2005
The Gambling Act 2005 granted licenses to one "super casino," as well as eight large and eight small casinos, allowing them to host live entertainment in their specific venues. Plans show that these casinos will have a non-gambling area where there will be a range of restaurants, a bar, as well as live entertainment.
Claims that only the one super casino would be permitted to host live entertainment acts have been denied. It has been two years since gambling legislation was made less strict, and since then, more and more live entertainment has been introduced into British casinos. The UK’s first cabaret casino in more than forty years was launched at the Star City Casino in Birmingham.
Star City Casino has a sizable entertainment area, and a showroom that can hold more than two hundred guests. However, it is important to remember that other casinos are much smaller, and therefore shows will not be as big. Entertainers should not expect to find jobs at these new casinos, as entertainment will be offered on a small-scale, used mainly to create a vibrant atmosphere on a slow night.
