Trump Entertainment Bets on Atlantic City Casinos' Continuing Boom
19 August 2005
With plans for the opening of new casinos and other gaming venues in Pennsylvania and New York, some have said that Atlantic City Casinos may get a run for their money. However, these casinos still continue to thrive, with some having recently posted record breaking revenues. Many people expect Atlantic City to continue to grow, and experience further increases in profits.
Earlier this week, a conference call was held by Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc. (DJTE) chief executive officer James Perry. In this call, concerns about out-of-state competition were raised a number of times. There are plans to install many casino games in New York and Pennsylvania, such as video lottery terminals (VLT) and slot machines. Atlantic city casinos are also trying to install such games in order to raise money, but such plans were rejected by state legislators.
Many casinos have been revamping their facilities, a trend spurred by the great success of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, which opened in 2003. This hotel had the highest revenues last month, out of all twelve Atlantic City casinos. According to the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, these twelve casinos together posted the highest revenues since gambling was made legal in New Jersey in 1977.
