Mississippi Gulf Coast Casinos Lose Profits in July Due To Hurricane Dennis
21 August 2005
The Mississippi Coast may not have been harmed physically by Hurricane Dennis, but the effects on its casinos were disastrous. Casinos were closed down on what would have normally been a busy weekend, causing them to lose significant profits.
These casinos were shutdown the weekend of July 10th. They closed on Saturday afternoon, and were only reopened on Monday morning.
Coast revenue for the month was only $102.3 million, in comparison to July 2004's $113.7 million. This was reported as one of the worst Julys since 1998, before Beau Rivage and Imperial Palace opened for business.
Total revenues for casinos along the Mississippi River in July were $136.3 million, opposed to last year's $134.8 million. However, the statewide total still dropped to $238.6 million, from last July's $248.5 million.
