Blair Rumored to Consider Allowing 12 Super Casinos- Will Yarmouth get one?
28 September 2005
During the spring season, the UK town of Yarmouth was disappointed as a last minute deal on the Government's Gambling Bill reduced the number of super casinos from eight to one. However, a recent newspaper report led many to believe that British Prime Minister Tony Blair could change this law, permitting up to twelve casinos.
Yarmouth MP Tony Wright reportedly feels confident, after holding positive talks with ministers, that the issue concerning the number of super casinos will be readdressed. Mr Wright was quoted as saying that Yarmouth is in a good position for casinos, as it has the capacity for regeneration, a major criteria for granting regional casino licenses.
A Spokesman from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport made it clear that the future may hold more regional casinos, with hundreds of table games, as well as thousands of slot machines. Yarmouth Pleasure Beach Managing director Albert Jones would like to rekindle plans to build a multi-million pound hotel and super casino. A super casino in Yarmouth would boost its economy and create more jobs.
