Rezoning Granted For Future Casino In Vicksburg, Mississippi
20 October 2005
Special zoning approval has been granted to Lakes Entertainment in order to build a $200 million casino and hotel, off of U.S. 61 South. The company was already permitted to build a casino according to the zoning laws. Lakes Entertainment, however, wanted the requirements of these laws to be altered in order to prevent industries from building nearby, as they wanted to preserve a resort image.
This hotel and casino complex will feature seven restaurants, 410 hotel rooms, as well as sufficient space to accommodate 250-person conventions. Lakes Entertainment must still provide proof that it is financially able to build the casino, before the company will be permitted to begin development.
The state commission must then provide the company with its final approval, and plans for casino development will then be able to begin. This new casino will be the fifth in Vicksburg.
