Casino Giant Harrah's Entertainment Awarded for Efforts to Combat Problem Gambling

Casino giant Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. presented the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a grant in 2004 that helped launch a training program for problem gambling counselors. This was the first time that any university in the United States was offered such assistance.
This month Harrah's was one of seven lucky recipients __ awarded with the "Best of the BEST Awards," presented by the BEST Coalition for a Safe and Drug-Free Nevada. In addition to being recognized for assisting in the building of a safe, drug-free Nevada, Harrah's also owns and operates casinos and casino hotels in a number of different locations. For two years now, Harrah's has provided a total of $30,000 in grant money to UNLV's Department of Marriage, Family and Community Counseling, which has funded the Harrah's Graduate Assistantship in Problem Gambling. One graduate student training to be a state-certified problem gambling counselor will receive this grant.
Harrah's is considered a leader in the promotion of responsible gaming, and has introduced a large number of responsible gaming initiatives, such as helplines from problem gamblers and the introduction of responsible gaming training for all Harrah's employees. The company is the world's largest provider of branded casino entertainment, and continues to grow.
