Seneca Casino Embraced By Pinnacle and Buffalo Lakefront Group
30 October 2005
If the Seneca Tribe decides forgo its current plans of building its new casino in Buffalo's Cobblestone District, Buffalo Lakefront Development LLC, the designated developer for 120 acres on the outer harbor of Buffalo, and Las Vegas-based gaming company Pinnacle Entertainment will welcome it with open arms. These two companies have signed a partnership agreement that will offer the Senecas 24 acres at the south end of this site if they change their minds. The agreement was signed in August after interest was shown in the waterfront site by Seneca leaders.
In October, the Seneca Nation announced that the site for its Erie County casino would be in Buffalo's Cobblestone District. Partners of Pinnacle feel optimistic that the tribe could change its mind on the location of the casino. If the Seneca Tribe were to choose Buffalo's outer harbor as its casino site, Pinnacle would transfer 10 acres of this site to them for casino development. The casino company would also develop restaurants, hotels and other forms of entertainment on the site.
No discussions have been held between the Seneca Tribe, Pinnacle and the Buffalo Lakefront group with regards to the casino. This idea has the support of many people, such as County Executive Joel A. Giambra, who feel that a casino along with other forms of entertainment will bring in many tourists as, well as their money.
