Pokhara Casino Expected to Attract Tourists
6 November 2005
Pokhara, a city in Nepal, which has suffered a major drop in tourism, will be opening its first casino at the Phulbari Resort and Spa. The confidence of tourism entrepreneurs has reached an all time low as of late due to a slowdown in the tourism industry. The casino is expected to attract more tourists and boost back confidence levels.
Figures show that the number of tourists visiting Nepal has decreased over the past nine months. Currently, there are six casinos in the country, and casino operation can be dated back to 1968 when Casino Nepal began to operate.
Nepal is popular among South Asian gamblers, and is the only country besides Sri Lanka that awards licenses to operate casinos. The casino in Pokhara is expected to attract more tourists to a city that has not had the privilege of seeing many visitors in recent times.
