New Zealand Casino Could Face License Suspension

The Dunedin Casino in New Zealand faces the risk of losing its license after an addictive gambler lost $5 million over a two-year period. The gambler, Christine Marie Keenan, was sentenced to a three-year jail term after stealing $500,000 to aid her gambling problem. The new gambling law states that casinos must do their utmost in order to prevent harm caused by gambling.
The Dunedin Casino has said that it is certain that it followed all obligations under the gambling act. Nonetheless, they have been given 10 working days to file a written submission and ask for a hearing.
An application has been submitted by internal affairs for the Dunedin Casino to be suspended. This is the first time that such an application has been submitted under the new law. The Dunedin Casino has said that it will do everything possible in order to prevent the suspension from taking place.
