South African Casino Industry Signs Code Of Conduct
15 November 2005
For the first time ever, a national gambling industry code of conduct has been signed in South Africa's casino sector. South Africa will be the first country, apart from the US, to sign into this type of national code of conduct. Sun International (SUI), Gold Reef Casino Resorts (GDF), and Peermont Global (PTG) are a few gaming groups that signed the code of conduct.
The Casino Association of South Africa (CASA) announced the implementation of the code of conduct in Cape Town this week. The code of conduct will insure that everyone in the casino industry adheres to specific rules that will promote responsible gambling throughout South Africa. The new code will cover everything from ways to prevent underage gambling to advertising standards .
In the past eight years, nine of South Africa's provinces have seen 12 billion rand (nearly 2 billion USD) in new investments, as well as the creation of 100,000 jobs in the 2003-2004 period. Tourism and leisure sectors have also been transformed due to the casino industry.
