Vicksburg Mayor Demands Changes at Proposed Casino Complex
19 November 2005
Vicksburg, Mississippi, Mayor Laurence Leyens has stated that the proposed Pot of Gold casino/hotel complex, developed by Magnolia Hill Resort, will not get his vote, unless plans for the casino are changed. A city board meeting on the casino project will take place December 5th.
The lay Vicksburg Board of Zoning Appeals gave Magnolia Hill Resort and Pot of Gold approval for a $48 million casino/hotel in a 3-2 vote. However, zoning approval for this project, which will face the Mississippi River immediately north of the Rainbow Casino development, will be subject to an appeal before the city board by residents whose homes face this property.
Many feel that the casino project has a lot of potential, as it could create 400-500 permanent jobs. Magnolia Resort and Pot of Gold would constitute the sixth casino resort in the Vicksburg area.
