Woman Accuses Missouri Casino of Failing to Prevent Rape
22 November 2005
It was recently reported that a woman by the name of Dawn Kozik has filed a $1 million lawsuit against Casino Queen, a Missouri gaming venue, for failing to protect her from a rapist two years ago. Kozik claimed that although she informed casino personnel regarding the threatening presence of the eventual attacker before the rape has actually occurred, they did nothing to prevent the traumatic event.
Kozik was reported as saying that the casino breached its duty of keeping guests safe, as it allowed the future rapist to visit the venue, knowing that he might be dangerous. In addition, the casino failed in getting rid of the assailant prior to the attack. Kozik also accused the casino of willfully endangering her life.
According to the complaint filed by Kozik in St. Clair County, following the casino's indifference as to her well being, she was sexually assaulted and suffered numerous physical and emotional injuries. Robert Kozik, Dawn's husband, claimed to have suffered emotional trauma, as well. Besides the $1 million compensation, the couple is seeking to collect $25,000 in damages, each.
