Detroit's MotorCity Casino To Build Permanent Facility
2 December 2005
MotorCity Casino broke ground this week, making it the second casino complex in Detroit to begin construction on a permanent casino facility. Although it's the second to start, it is expected to be the first to actually open. It is estimated that the casino hotel will take between 18 months and two years to finish.
The existing casino complex will be completely renovated inside and out with an addition of 25,000 square feet to the casino floor. Restaurants, shopping facilities, a spa and a 1,200-seat theater are on the list of features that will be included in the hotel-casino.
Currently, 2,700 employees work at MotorCity Casino. Three Hundred more permanent workers will be employed by the casino once it opens, and over 1,200 construction jobs will be created by the expansion. MGM Grand Detroit Casino and Greektown Casino also plan to build permanent casino facilities.
