MGM Mirage Selected to Construct Casino Complex in Birmingham, England
13 December 2005
National Exhibition Center officials in Birmingham recently announced that MGM Mirage, a prominent casino operator, had been selected to construct a gaming venue in the city. The realization of the casino project depends on whether or not the company will obtain several legal permits to operate the venue, such as a gaming license. Receiving local regulatory approval is an extremely important factor, as well.
The Birmingham exhibition group said that the new casino complex would be christened, "MGM Grand at The NEC”. The facility is slated to spread over 300,000 square feet of resort space. Apart from a casino, the complex will feature several restaurants and a parking lot close by. The project may also include a four-star hotel with 300 rooms.
Lloyd Nathan, managing director of European development at the Las Vegas-based MGM, was quoted as saying, “we believe the NEC site provides an excellent location and with our unparalleled experience, this joint proposal anticipates creating a showpiece architectural statement combining not just gaming, but also exciting, new entertainment and dining experiences that will redefine the gaming and leisure experience for the West Midlands and the United Kingdom.”
