Women Sue Casino After Husbands Lose Their Money
18 December 2005
Two male addictive gamblers managed to lose their families' savings during one night of playing the "fruit machines" at a WestSpiel casino in Germany. The wives of both these men were angered by this incident and decided to sue the casino. Both wives won their cases.
The high court in Karlsruhe, Germany, stated that the casino showed negligence, as it allowed the two men to gamble, even though they had made a written request to be removed from the casino if they ever attempted to step foot inside. The casino claimed that it does monitor those playing blackjack and roulette at the casino, but not those at gaming machines near the lobby.
Both women sued the casino in order to get back the thousands of Euros that were lost by their husbands. Federal judges have found the casino guilty of negligence, and have appointed the lower court to decide on the amount of damages that should be paid.
