Millennium Dome Site Considered for Regional Casino
31 December 2005
Local authorities agreed this week to consider a casino development at the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, London. Operators wishing to be in the running for a casino in the UK needed prior approval from local councils in order to be considered by the national government. Yesterday was the government's deadline for interested parties.
Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and South African gambling giant Kerzner have already begun drawing up plans for the proposed casino. The developers plan to create a top-class tourist and leisure destination in Greenwich.
Authorities may have shown interest in the casino, but are still waiting to see the proposals that AEG and Kerzner will provide. The groups plan to develop a 300-room luxury casino hotel and aim to create over 1,117 jobs.
