No Casino Role for Pierce Brosnan
2 January 2006
Former James Bond stud Pierce Brosnan is said to still be bewildered by the fact that he was not chosen to play the part of the suave spy in the up-coming “Casino Royale” film. However, the actor has chosen not to cry over spilled milk or lost casino chips, and has moved on.
Even though producers may have felt that Brosnan was not suited to play the role amongst the bright casino lights and poker tables of “Casino Royale,” the actor still continues to move up in the film industry. Brosnan is currently in the running for a Golden Globe award for his performance in “The Matador," in which he plays a sleazeball hitman.
This time round, the focus of the new Bond film shifts a bit. In “Casino Royale,” Bond must use his expert tactics to try and suppress a vicious, high-rolling Russian operative who goes by the name of 'Le Chiffre.' In the original novel by Ian Flemming, the main focus was on Baccarat, but in the film, poker is the game in the spotlight.
