Did Israeli Prime Minister's Family Receive Casino Money From Austrian Millionaires?
4 January 2006
Police have discovered documents pertaining to an alleged $3 million money transfer by the millionaire Schlaff family of Austria to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his sons. The Schlaff family is connected to a number of casinos around the world, including the Palestinian Authority's Oasis Casino in Jericho. This casino is believed to be a source of the money given to Sharon.
The $3 million in question was allegedly transferred into the bank account of Gilad Sharon, the Prime Minister's son. This money is believed to have originated from the casino companies of Martin Schlaff, a close friend of the Sharon family.
Police attempted to investigate the Schlaff family in Austria, but were unsuccessful. However, they manged to do so, when James Schlaff, the brother of Martin, visited Israel. Police searched the home of James' parents, taking with them documents and laptops. Police officials believe that these casino-related funds were used by the Sharon family to pay back illegal donations that they had previously received. It has also been reported that the remaining money is still in the possession of the Sharon family.
