Saint Louis Casino Not Impressed by Sky-High Parking Fees
5 January 2006
Columbia Sussex Corp., a hotel and casino operator, and owner of the "Cherrick" parking lot in St. Louis, Missouri, has upped its parking lot fees. The President Casino, which rents spaces in the parking lot for its players, was reported as saying that parking, at its current rate, is becoming financially impossible. Columbia Sussex once charged the casino $1.50 a car, but now it charges up to $25 a car.
Columbia Sussex is trying to pressure the President Casino to buy its parking lot. President Casino had said that it would like to do so, but cannot, as the city of Saint Louis has already planned to tear the parking lot down, in order to build a $400 million casino complex on the site, care of Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. It was also been reported that President Casino creditors would likely be reluctant to dish out money to purchase a parking lot that will be condemned.
According to Sussex, however, the cityf Saint Louis cannot prevent President Casino from purchasing the lot. The President Casino has argued in court that the city's plans to tear down the lot are unfair, as the space is so vital to its business.
