UK Hotel Plans to Incorporate Casino
12 January 2006
Gambling laws have changed recently in the UK, making casinos more open to the public. The previous law stated that gamblers had to register 24 hours before entering a casino and also that casinos and hotels could not be have an entranceway leading directly from one to the other; hotel patrons wishing to gamble were forced to leave the hotel and enter the casino wing of the property from an external entrance. Due to this change, Thistle Hotel in Edinburgh has decided to build a casino in the hotel.
The new casino will be built on the second floor with an entrance directly from the hotel. The casino plans indicate that the casino floor will have four roulette tables, eight blackjack tables, a poker table, more than 30 slot machines, a bar lounge, and a kitchen.
This new law will give hotels a major opportunity to improve their businesses, as casinos will bring in more guests, which will in turn create more employment. However, a casino in the city has raised concern as an increase of addictive gamblers may result.
