Blackpool the Frontrunner in Race for Sole UK Super Casino License
21 January 2006
The British have recently relaxed their gambling laws as they hope to raise more money through tax revenues from casino establishments throughout the United Kingdom. Originally planning to dole out eight licenses for super, Las Vegas-style, casinos, the government has scaled back its plans and will now only issue one solitary casino license.
City officials are excited about the prospects for a new super casino in their town, as it is the centerpiece of a large-scale renovation project designed to turn Blackpool into a major British resort. The license will actually be issued towards the end of this year, following an official recommendation to the British government by the Casino Advisory Panel. Wherever the casino ends up being built, it is sure to draw more even tourists to the UK.
