Wheelchair-Bound Mother Neglected Outside Casino
8 February 2006
Fifty-seven-year-old Andrew Hawkins Jr. has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. The reason for this is that the man pleaded guilty on account of leaving his 82-year-old wheelchair-bound mother outside a casino for several hours, while he gambled inside.
It was reported that, when Hawkins visited the Majestic Star Casino in Gary, Indiana, last March, he left his mother outside in the casino's pavilion. Casino employees noticed the woman sitting outside for many hours in the cold and decided to contact police officials.
The woman was taken from the casino straight to the hospital to tend to a broken hip. Hawkins has been charged with neglect of a dependent.
