Casino Patrons Warned of Possible TB Outbreak
12 February 2006
Patrons who visited the Sycuan casino in San Diego between Oct. 1 and Nov. 27 have been advised by health officials to receive medical examinations in order to determine whether or not they have been exposed to tuberculosis (TB). The reason for the concern by health officials is that a person visiting the casino in both October and November was infected with this disease.
It has been reported that Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's deputy public health officer, urged anyone who had visited the casino during this period to undergo a TB skin test and possibly other tests if necessary.
Those exposed to TB at the casino will not necessarily develop the disease. However, it is vital for all casino patrons to constantly be aware of symptoms such as coughing, night sweats, fever, and unexplained weight loss. The TB Control Program is offering assistance to any casino visitor who does not have access to medical care.
