Jerry Seinfeld, Elton John, and Celine Dion Raise $2.1m for Harrah's Casino-Worker Katrina Victims
21 February 2006
The effects of Hurricane Katrina are still being felt by hundreds of thousands of people in the Gulf Coast region, including the 8,000 or so who worked in Harrah's Entertainment casinos in the area. In the spirit of heartwarming altruism, Harrah's Entertainment Inc. coordinated a fundraiser for its former employees at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. And, in typical Las Vegas fashion, the show Harrah's produced at the casino was bawdy, sensational, and phenomenally successful.
The casino played host to the king of stand-up comedy, Jerry Seinfeld, and two of the world's most popular recording artists, Elton John and Celine Dion, who all put on a riveting performance for over 4,000 spectators. About $2.1 million was raised, which, added to the $4.5 million already raised by the casino corporation, will go to benefit Harrah's former Gulf Coast casino workers.
