Atlantic City Casino Workers to Serve as Jury For Sixth Vioxx Case
3 March 2006
Ten Atlantic City casino workers will be determining whether or not manufacturers of the drug Vioxx, Merck & Co, are to blame for heart attacks suffered by two men in New Jersey.
The casino workers have been picked to serve on the jury in a court case against Merck & Co over this very controversial arthritis drug. Vioxx was taken off the market in 2004, and reports indicated that it was linked to a number of heart attacks and strokes.
The casino workers will serve as jury members in the sixth Vioxx trial. Merck has already won two of these cases but lost one in state and federal courts. The fourth of the cases was deemed a mistrial, and the fifth is currently proceeding in Texas.
