Money Withdrawn from Several Accounts Illegally at Casino ATM
5 March 2006
Claudiu Hotea, a California man, has been arrested for stealing electronic data from credit and debit cards. This data was used in order to draw money from various accounts at a casino in northern California.
Reports have indicated that Hotea and Emanuel Constantin Moldoveanu, of Sacramento, were involved in an identity theft scheme. The two stole thousands of dollars from over 90 people by monitoring them at gas stations in various California counties. They attached small cameras to gas pumps in order to read personal debit card pin numbers. This debit card data was used to draw money from the ATM at the northern California casino.
Both Hotea and Moldoveanu were captured and arrested at the Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln, California.
