California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Raises Awareness For Casino Addicts
9 March 2006
Casino gambling has a destructive impact on a number of individuals and their families, as a large number of people become addicted to gambling and can lose fortunes. As a response to the negative impact of gambling, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has designated March 6-12 as Gambling Awareness Week in California. Reports have indicated that thousands of Californians who are addicted to casino gambling, call a gambling hotline run by the California Council on Problem Gambling. There is almost an equal amount of male and female callers ranging in age from 26 to 55.
A number of state agencies, such as the Department of Justice's Division of Gambling Control, California State Lottery, California Council on Problem Gambling, California Horse Racing Board, and California Gambling Control Commission, have supported the introduction of Gambling Awareness Week to help those addicted to casino gambling.
