Harrah's Entertainment and Titanic's Producer Join Forces in Bid for Singapore's First Casino

Harrah's Entertainment Inc., the world's largest provider of branded casino entertainment, recently linked up with Academy Award winner James Cameron in a bid to develop a high-tech theme park at Singapore's first planned casino-resort. The future project, dubbed "iPort," is designed to be an up to 1 million-square-foot facility that would include numerous attractions as well as restaurants and shops. According to Harrah's, the casino company intends to develop this project under its Caesars brand name, and will call the future venue "Caesars Singapore" if its bid wins the tender.
As the project's executive producer, Cameron will oversee the development of interactive rides based on his hit movies, such as Titanic, Aliens, and Terminator. The bid is part of a development project to enhance Singapore's Marina Bay site. The winning bid is expected to be announced by mid-2006, and, if approved, the theme park opening would be scheduled for 2010. The list of other competitors for the Singapore casino also includes major gaming entertainment powerhouses, such as MGM Mirage and Las Vegas Sands.
Gary Loveman, chairman, CEO, and president of Harrah's Entertainment, was quoted as saying, "This is something that is truly pathfinding, something that has never been done anywhere in the world. [...] We believe this will be the gateway attraction for Asia." In addition, Cameron said, "This is art, architecture, cutting-edge technology and entertainment. [...] This is a chance to push the envelope and do something that's never been done. Think of it not as a space, but as a total immersion experience."
