Top Missouri Casino Gaming Regulator Resigns
18 March 2006
It was recently reported that Kevin P. Mullally, the Missouri Gaming Commission's executive director for the past five years, decided to resign. According to Mullally, he will step down next month in order to become general counsel and government affairs director for Gaming Laboratories International Inc., a New Jersey-based company that performs laboratory tests on casino equipment, such as slot machines and lottery devices.
Gaming Commission Chairman Floyd Bartch was reported as saying that Millally, 42, is a praise-worthy gaming regulator who has been credited with enacting many of the policies that currently control the state's casino industry.
As executive director, Mullally administrated an agency with a $16 million budget and over 200 employees. Mullally reportedly said he was leaving voluntarily and that he had always planned to look for another position by 2007. However, the timing of his departure raised questions about whether or not Governor Matt Blunt, who has influence on the Commission's appointees, is seeking a change in the organization's leadership.
