23 March 2006
Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. recently publicized plans to reopen its Hurricane Katrina-damaged Grand Casino Biloxi, in Mississippi, by late summer 2006. Pending regulatory approval, the property will undergo an extensive renovation. The company's existing land-based facilities will be completely redesigned into a casino and a 500-room hotel. The resort will also have other attractive features, such as a steakhouse and a full-service spa.
Grand Casino Biloxi will be headed by Karen Sock, a former assistant general manager of Grand Casino Gulfport. The reopened casino will employ over 1,000 individuals. Harrah's reopening of this casino facility represents the gaming company's first step towards developing a world-class gaming resort in Biloxi. Company officials expect to unveil preliminary plans for this development in mid-2006.
Gary Loveman, chairman, CEO and president of Harrah's Entertainment, was quoted as saying, "We're excited to begin the process of rebuilding on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. [...] The Grand will return with the kind of high-quality casino entertainment experience our customers have come to expect. We look forward to contributing to the restoration of the Gulf Coast's tourism industry, and to getting our employees back on the job as quickly as possible."
