Wax Sculpture of Tupac to Feature at Madame Tussauds in the Venetian Casino, Las Vegas
25 March 2006
A recreation of slain rapper Tupac Shakur, one of the most admired figures in the American rap world, will be sculpted in wax and presented at the Madame Tussauds wax museum in Las Vegas as part of the new "Tupac Eternal" exhibit. Shakur's 55-pound wax figure will be unveiled for the first time on April 5, 2006 during a special ceremony at the Venetian hotel-casino. Ironically, Shakur stands to be immortalized precisely in Las Vegas, the city where he was gunned down almost a decade ago.
The late rapper's figure will be showcased bare-chested, sporting a bandanna and displaying all of his iconic tattoos. Each of Tupac's tattoos has been redrawn and individually hand-painted onto the wax figure. The wax Tupac is being resurrected by sculptor Jeni Fairey, of The Tussauds Studio London, the woman who is responsible for the wax effigies of many famous celebrities, such as Beyoncé Knowles.
Born in New York, legendary artist Tupac Shakur was only 25 when he died. The rapper's wax figure has been created from hundreds of photographs given to Madame Tussauds by Afeni Shakur, Tupac's mother. After the presentation at the Las Vegas casino, the sculpture is scheduled to travel to numerous galleries in New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and London.
