Online Casino GoldenPalace.com Acquires Martin Luther King Killer's Bathtub
2 April 2006
Online casino GoldenPalace.com recently made another eccentric purchase to expand its collection of historic items. The prominent online gaming site acquired the Lorraine Motel's bathtub James Earl Ray was standing in when he shot Martin Luther King in 1968.
The famous bathtub carried a $7,600 price tag and was bought from D'Army Bailey, a Memphis judge. Bailey is a co-founder of the National Civil Rights Museum located at the site of King's assassination. He bought the tub back in 1983. Bailey said that he believed that the casino would treat the unique item "with sensitivity for its historical significance."
Richard Rowe, GoldenPalace.com CEO, was quoted as saying, "We are proud to have bought this piece of American history and help a worthy cause by doing so. [...] Martin Luther King continues to touch people's lives, and we will treat this item with respect worthy of his memory and legacy."
