Mansion Online Casino Group: Manchester United double deals!
4 April 2006
English soccer club Manchester United has recently been accused of "double dealing" after ending sponsorship negotiations with Mansion, an online casino group. Mansion reportedly confirmed that talks regarding a $200 million sponsorship deal had irreversibly ended. According to Mansion officials, the company had indeed learned that United had been engaged in talks with other potential partners.
David Kinsman, a spokesperson for the Gibraltar-based online casino group, was reported as saying that Mansion was extremely disappointed with the way in which Manchester United had terminated sponsorship contract negotiations and that it was surprised that the discussions were terminated at such a late stage. He added that he had shortened a business trip abroad to convene with the club's commercial director, Andy Anson, after being led to believe that the deal was as good as sealed.
Mansion was a leading candidate to replace Vodafone as the club's shirt sponsor. The telecommunications powerhouse recently cut short its United contract, with its logo scheduled to be removed from United shirts next season. In response to the aforementioned accusations, the club issued a statement maintaining that it had never promised exclusivity to any of its potential sponsors, and that all involved parties knew that several discussions were being held at the same time.
