George Clooney's Las Ramblas Casino Complex Postponed
8 April 2006
Hollywood actor George Clooney has temporarily put off his recently-announced plans to develop Las Ramblas, a colossal Las Vegas hotel-casino complex with an open-air pedestrian promenade inspired by Las Ramblas in Barcelona, Spain. The venue was designed to feature 11 towers, including a five-star hotel, condos, bungalows and a casino.
On a prior occasion, the Hollywood heavyweight was reported as saying that he intended to donate nearly a quarter of his future casino profits to the African Debt Relief Program. The Las Ramblas project was slated for completion in 2008.
Nevertheless, Clooney's backers chose to sell the over 11 hectare plot of land on which the $3 billion casino resort was supposed to be constructed. However, the famous actor and another investor, Rene Gerber, Cindy Crawford's husband, said that, although they are currently forced to postpone their ambitious project, they remain committed to Africa's poor.
