Gray-Haired Grandma Hits Atlantic City's Biggest Ever Casino Jackpot of $10 Million
22 April 2006
Josephine Crawford, a 84-year-old widow from Galloway Township, New Jersey, recently hit Atlantic City's largest ever jackpot- $10 million- while playing at the city's Harrah's casino. The lucky winner, a retired waitress, won the grand prize after investing $35 in the Megabucks slots, a progressive nickel slot machine linked to many others installed in Atlantic City's 12 casinos.
Crawford has been gambling in Atlantic City casino facilities for many years. Nevertheless, it was her first time winning such a major sum of money. She had not yet decided whether to accept her win in a 25-year annuity of the full amount or in a lump-sum payment of over $5.5 million, but she has three more weeks to decide on this matter.
When asked about her future plans regarding the slots money, the fortunate casino-goer was reported as saying that she did not intend to make any new purchases. Crawford said that she always wanted to visit Italy, where here parents were born. She also announced that she would share her newly-received fortune with her family, which consists of two daughters, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
