Losing Gambler Sues Indiana's Caesars Casino for Tempting Him to Accept Credit
31 May 2006
Jimmy L. Vance, a developer from Corbin, Kentucky, recently filed a lawsuit against the Caesars riverboat casino in Indiana. According to Vance's clam, he was intoxicated when he accepted $75,000 in credit from the casino and then managed to lose it all in one night. Vance was reported as saying that the casino staff had continued serving him drinks even though he had been completely drunk.
The legal action between Vance and the casino began last year when the gaming boat sued Vance for failing to repay the $75,000. Nevertheless, Vance decided to fire back and filed a counterclaim, which argued that he was visibly drunk that night at the casino, and was intentionally tempted by the casino employees to take several credit advances. Therefore, according to Vance, he should not be held responsible for the losses.
In response to Vance's accusations, Caesars’ lawyer Gregory Taylor wrote that the developer was not the first losing gambler that wanted his money back. Since the beginning of 2005, the floating casino boat has filed almost identical suits against 17 individuals from different states. Caesars received repayment or judgments in most of the cases, while others are still pending.
