George Clooney No Longer to Develop the Las Ramblas Casino Project
8 June 2006
Nearly ten months after its widely-announced launch and following heavy rumors regarding its untimely demise, actor George Clooney's proposed Las Vegas casino development project is officially dead. The casino Las Ramblas was designed to feature a 4,000 room condo-hotel, luxurious restaurants and high-end shopping centers.
Nevertheless, the casino resort project is reportedly no longer going ahead. The downfall of the Las Ramblas has become official with the selling of the 25 acre-property, that the gaming venue was supposed to be constructed on, to Edge Resorts, developers of the nearby W Las Vegas condominium-hotel project.
Clooney and his group of partners made a colossal profit off of the land. It was initially acquired for $75 million, and now resold for as much as $202 million. The 45-year-old Oscar winner issued a statement saying that he intended to donate his profits from the sale to the African Debt Relief Project and that he would have to find another casino to gamble at.
